With the help of MASUM, all arrestees were released under Personal Released Bonds after a<br />
short period of time. However, the police registered fresh cases because the arrestees protested<br />
against the atrocious action of police.<br />
On 13 July 2007, when the fact finding team asked IC Sasanko Sekhor Chkraborty about the<br />
newly registered cases, he replied that he only followed his superior’s order in registering the<br />
cases.<br />

The SDO ordered the release of all arrestees except Debashish Biswas, who was charged with<br />
shouting inside the Hospital area and trying to organise an attack of the SDO’s car. A case was<br />
registered against him u/s 448, 353, 186, 324, 326, 354, 427, 307, 341, 34 IPC (criminal<br />
trespass, causing grievous hurt, attempt to murder, mischief, wrongful confinement, debarring<br />

Case Details:<br />
Victim Deepak Mahish, age 22, is the son of victim Sanyasi Mahish. He is a businessman who<br />
runs a lathe machine. He was on poor terms with Inspector General Sadan Mondal after a<br />
personal feud.<br />

2007<br />
On 23 August 2006, Deepak and Sanyasi Mahish were arrested by PI Rabin Das of Bantra PS.<br />
It is alleged that they were arrested under the directions of DSP (Howrah) Niraj Kumar Singh,<br />
who was trying to oblige his superior officer, Sadan Mondal.<br />
After the arrest, Deepak and Sanyasi Mahish were taken to Bantra PS, where they were beaten<br />
before the police registered a false charge against them u/s 290 IPC. While Deepak Mahish was<br />
in custody, the police damaged the SIM card of his mobile telephone in order to destroy any<br />
evidence of communication between Deepak Mahish and Sadan Mondal’s family members.
