to the Municipality. The Municipality offered alternative shelter to the tenants, but they refused to
go there.

Case Detail:
Victim Arun Mishra was one of many local victims who protested against the criminal activities of
the land broker Prabir Das in the locality.
On 12 January 2007, Prabir Das and his associates were involved in a criminal incident. The
police were informed but intentionally arrived late. When they arrived, many of the troublemakers
fled, and those who remained lied and said that they were customers of the land brokers. OC
Rameswar Ojha concluded without enquiry that the complaint had been baseless.

On 13 January 2007, Arun Mishra went to lodge a complaint at the Sarkarpul Police Investigation
Centre. However, the duty officer refused to lodge an FIR, and only recorded a General Diary
entry. No action was taken.
At present, Arun Mishra experiences mental agony and seeks protection from the police – as do
other victims of Prabir Das.
