350 local people have submitted a written memorandum to the District Magistrate
(Murshidabad), copying MASUM, complaining that the police have falsely accused
Jinnat Ali Molla.

Case Details:
Victim Debashish Biswas, age 38, is a resident of Kalikapur, Barasat. He is a member of the
political party SUCI.
On 12 July 2007, a woman gave birth to twin children in the Barasat State General Hospital. Due
to the carelessness of some Hospital staff, one of the babies died prematurely. The Hospital staff
did not allow the father of the babies to enter the hospital.
Debashish Biswas went to the Barasat Police Station with the father of the newborn child to file a
complaint against the Hospital authorities for their negligence, but the police refused to register
any case.
At the same time, other members of SUCI also reached the Hospital to register a complaint with
the Hospital Superintendent. The Superintendent informed the police and the SDO. The police
and media personnel arrived. Female SUCI members surrounded the SDO’s car. The SDO
became angry.
The police conducted an indiscriminate lathi-charge. They also arrested some of the protesters,
including Debashish Biswas.
