Case Details:<br />
The Victims mentioned above are from the area of Singur an obscure place in District: Hoogly,<br />
<strong>West</strong> <strong>Bengal</strong>. The <strong>West</strong> <strong>Bengal</strong> government tried to establish a car factory for TATA group in that<br />
area in which the local people had build up the resistance since long.<br />
The state government deployed a large number of police contingent and RAF, over there and it<br />
continued force deployment to stop their protest. The government already promulgated the<br />
prohibitory order u/s 144 of Cr. P.C. in Singur and had extended the order time to time.<br />
On 25 th January 2007, Agitating farmers of Khaserveri and Beraberi villages set ablaze a<br />
portion of the fence around the proposed small car factory of Tata Motors at Singur as programme<br />
of protest.<br />
Annual <strong>Report</strong> on Torture<br />
2007<br />
At about 12:30 P.M. on the same date, Mr. Asit Pal, ASP of Hooghly, Mr. Kalyan Mukhopadhyay,<br />
Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Chandannagar and Mr. Priyobrata Bakshi, Officer in-charge of<br />
Singur PS barged into two local clubs of Bajemelia and Gopalnagar with police force and<br />
destroyed valuable furniture and telephone of the club.<br />
The officers threatened the club members and local villagers who were present at the time of<br />
incident and abused them with vulgar words. The policemen explained that they raided those<br />
clubs and the villages to check whether the prohibitory order under section 144 of Cr.P.C had<br />
been violated or not and if there was any miscreant present or not in the villages.
