Case Details:
Hanif Mondal, a Reporter for Kolkata TV, was reporting on issues related to the torture perpetrated
on Sajedur Rahaman. The perpetrators, Sattar Mondal, Azi Mondal, Abu Mondal, Tojan Mondal,
Patu Mondal and Munchhar Mondal, first tried to bribe Hanif Mondal to stop the reporting. When
that failed, the perpetrators attacked Hanif on 22 nd June 2007. Hanif’s wife and neighbours found
Hanif beaten and unconscious. Hanif was taken to the hospital.
Hanif’s wife attempted to lodge a complaint to the Jalangi PS, but the police only filed a General
Diary entry. Mr. Somenath Banerjee, O.C, and Mr. Swapan Saha, 2 nd Officer verbally abused
Hanif and his wife when they tried to file the complaint. Hanif’s wife also lodged a complaint with
the CJM Court, but no action followed. Thus emboldened, the perpetrators continued to threaten
Hanif and his family.
The police have since registered two General Diary entries against Hanif’s two sons. Hanif and
his family live in constant fear of being murdered by the perpetrators.

Case Details:
Victims Hasan Ali, Sahana Katun, and Saruf Ali were aged 14, 15, and 11 respectively. They
worked at a factory manufacturing illegal firecrackers. They resided at Bedo Narayan Para, and
their families were certified as Below the Poverty Line (BPL). They were students of the National
Child Labour Project School.
