Case Details:
Victim Chandana Dhali was innocent, but she was tortured by her neighbours, so she sought the
help of the police to provide security. On the day of the incident, she had picked a quarrel with
some of her neighbours and they assaulted her with weapons. Her husband, who went to
rescue her, was also beaten. In the scuffle, one of them had snatched the victim’s gold chain.
Chandana Dhali went to Bagdah PS and filed a case against the perpetrators. There was no
fruitful response, so the miscreants became more enthusiastic and attacked the victim again.
On 3 May 2007, while Chandana Dhali was returning from Bongaon Court, the miscreants
(namely, Manamati Bala, Kali Barai, Dipti Sarkar, and Anjali Biswas) blocked her way and
began to beat her with sticks. Chandana Dhali took shelter in the house of one Babu Bala, but the
miscreants forced her from the house. Dipti Sarkar and Anjali Biswas beat her with a chopper.
She fell to the ground senseless, and the miscreants snatched more than Rs. 5,000, as well as
her gold ornaments and some valuable documents.
Though Chandana Dhali has lodged several complaints, there has been no response, so she
lives in terror.
