Case Details:
Victim Sefali Bose, age 27, is a mentally disabled woman living in North 24 Panganas.
Bose was raped by two men in an ambulance garage when she was walking him. A health
official witnessed the rape.
On 10 November 2006, Bose’s mother attempted to lodge a complaint with the Ghola PS but
was refused. After receiving some pressure, the Ghola PS rgistered the complaint, but did not
pursue any case or make any attempt to arrest the two rapists.
The Ghola PS Investigating Officer Biswajit Mondal warned Bose’s family not to reveal the rape
to the media

Case Details:
Victim Selima Bibi, age 16, was married on 17 June 2005.
Bibi’s husband attempted to kill Bibi by hanging her because she found out about his extramarital
affair.
On 30 May 2006, Bibi’s husband threw acid on her face. Bibi’s face, neck, shoulder, and right
arm were seriously injured.
On 31 May 2006, Bibi’s father lodged a written complaint against Bibi’s husband at the Basirhat
PS (Case no.193/06, U/S 326/308 IPC). The police have taken no subsequent action.
