event was witnessed by the victims’ neighbours.
Babu Mondal and Krishna Mondal were sent to Berhampore New General Hospital, where
Babu Mondal died. A post-mortem examination was performed, and an unnatural death case
was filed at Berhampore PS.
On 3 April 2003 at around 11.00am, Babu Mondal’s widow Ferdousa Bewa went to Raninagar
PS with her father to lodge a complaint against the PCs. The OC paid her no heed.
The police registered a case at Raninagar PS, dated 01.04.03, u/s 14/148/149/363/332/379/
511/307 IPC (rioting, kidnapping, theft, attempt to commit murder, etc.) against some innocent
people of the area.
On 10 April 2006, Babu Mondal’s family members lodged a complaint at the CJM Court,
Berhampore u/s 156(3) Cr. P. C., asking the court to direct the police to register a case about
Babu Mondal’s death. No action was taken.
On 27 August 2007, Babu Mondal’s family members filed an application before the court,
complaining about the police inaction. No action was taken.
