the field regardless, the PCs became annoyed. PC Kenari Lal shot them at close range. This<br />

event was witnessed by the victims’ neighbours.<br />

Babu Mondal and Krishna Mondal were sent to Berhampore New General Hospital, where<br />

Babu Mondal died. A post-mortem examination was performed, and an unnatural death case<br />

was filed at Berhampore PS.<br />

On 3 April 20<strong>03</strong> at around 11.00am, Babu Mondal’s widow Ferdousa Bewa went to Raninagar<br />

PS with her father to lodge a complaint against the PCs. The OC paid her no heed.<br />

The police registered a case at Raninagar PS, dated 01.04.<strong>03</strong>, u/s 14/148/149/363/332/379/<br />

511/307 IPC (rioting, kidnapping, theft, attempt to commit murder, etc.) against some innocent<br />

people of the area.<br />

On 10 April 2006, Babu Mondal’s family members lodged a complaint at the CJM Court,<br />

Berhampore u/s 156(3) Cr. P. C., asking the court to direct the police to register a case about<br />

Babu Mondal’s death. No action was taken.<br />

On 27 August 2007, Babu Mondal’s family members filed an application before the court,<br />

complaining about the police inaction. No action was taken.<br />
