A dispute between Tarak and Arati Nandi on one hand, and Lakshman Chandra Nandi on the
other, in which the latter wished to evict the former, resulted in charges under the Cr.P.C. The
case was eventually settled by the court in favour of Tarak and Arati Nandi. The court asked the
Howrah Police to take responsibility for maintaining peace in the locality. After passage of the
court’s order, there was peace among both the families for some time.
After a few months, Lakshman Chandra Nandi reopened the issue.
On 20 August 2007, SI Ashok Mondal, without making any enquiry, filed a false case against
Tarak and Arati Nandi u/s 107 Cr.P.C. This case has brought mental stress to Tarak and Arati
Nandi, and has lowered their social standing in the community.

Case Details:
Victim Subhankar Chakrabarty, age 34, is a resident of Jhargram, East Midnapur, West Bengal.
On 3 September 2007, the police, including Humayun Kabir, took Chakrabarty from his house
and forcefully procured his e-mail IDs and passwords. The police also took Chakrabarty’s
credit cards and computers without giving him a seizure list.
The police then produced Chakrabarty before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (AJCM) at
Jhargram. The ACJM directed the police to remand Subhankar for further interrogation.
