Ashok Kumar Basu Roy was in police custody until 5 October 2006, and was taken to the Dum
Dum Central Jail.
On 8 October 2006, Ashok Kumar Basu Roy sent a letter to his wife asking for Rs. 3,000. The
letter clearly stated that because he had no money beyond the Rs. 500 he had originally paid to
jail authorities, his life was miserable there.
On 10 October 2006, a further bail petition was rejected.
Meanwhile, the police began to harass Ashok Kumar Basu Roy’s brother-in-law, Rabindra
Karar.
It has been alleged that MLA Rekha Goswami of the CPI(M) party has influenced the police in
rejecting Ashok Kumar Basu Roy’s applications for release from police custody.
