Asima Raftan protested and tried to prevent the acts, but the crowd beat her with a bamboo stick
on her right shoulder until she became unconscious. Asima Raftan’s husband Asim Raftan tried
to come to her rescue but he was also beaten black and blue. All the people who tried to stop the
attackers were beaten indiscriminately. The attackers tried to outrage the modesty of the women.
This behaviour lasted for around two hours.
Asima Raftan was taken to the Canning Hospital.
The victims went to the Ghutiary Sharif Out Post to lodge complaint. OC Ardhendu Sekhar De
Sarkar was indifferent, even when Asima Raftan showed them her injuries. The duty officer only
registered a General Diary Entry, even though the complaint disclosed cognisable offences.
