Ananda attempted to lodge a complaint to Jalangi SI Tuhin Biswas, but SI Biswas sent Ananda<br />

away with the false promise that Mousami would return in four or five days. Later, the police tried<br />

convincing Ananda to compromise the case because the perpetrators had political influence.<br />

Despite his efforts, Ananda did not receive a photocopy of the complaint he lodged, and Jalangi<br />

POs failed to take any initiative to help locate the Ananda’s daughter.<br />

Case Details:<br />

Victim Mustafijur Rahaman and his friends were standing by his car in Durlavpur village on 18<br />

th<br />

October 2007. Perpetrators Tipu Biswas, Mainul Biswas and Lajim approached on their<br />

motorbikes. They beat Mustafijur with choppers, iron rods and other weapons, and vandalized<br />

his. They also beat Mustafijur’s friends. The perpetrators stole Rs.50,000, a gold chain and a<br />

mobile phone from the victim.<br />

Jalangi POs took Mustafijur to the rural hospital, and then he was transferred to the GH because<br />

of his critical condition. Mustafijur’s father Abdul Bari went to the Jalangi PS to file a complaint on<br />

behalf of his son, but learned that the perpetrators already had filed a false case against the victim.<br />

In spite of receiving orders from the BDO, the police failed to take action because the perpetrators<br />

had political influence.<br />

Abdul Bari lodged complaints to the SP, Berhampore; Chairman, WBHRC; and Court, Alipore,<br />

but no response was received.
