Nitai Mondal, along with his wife, four minor sons, brother, and sister in-law were evicted from
their house by Binay Kumar Haldar and other residents of Hariganj Bagan village. On 11
October 2006, several perpetrators entered Nitai’s house in broad daylight and ransacked the
house, including kicking over the family’s pots with their meals. The perpetrators kicked,
punched, and slapped Nitai’s family, including his wife and children.
Though Nitai Mondal lodged a general diary entry at Murshidabad PS, the police did not arrest
the perpetrators.
Nitai and his family still are receiving continuous threats from the perpetrators and are living
without shelter. Though Nitai has repeatedly complained to the police about the incident, they
have taken no action.
Complaints were also lodged to the SP and District Land and Reform Officer, but they have not
responded.

Rupananda Maharaj gang (hereinafter, “the gang”). The gang had also sexually assaulted
Bag.
