On 23 January 2007, victim Moumita Banerjee, age 16, went to meet her boyfriend in Dulepara
Village. Banerjee never returned. Banerjee’s family lodged a Misssing Diary at Bhadreswar
PS (the General Diary Entry Numbered, Bud. PS GDE No – 1636 dated 23 January 2007).
On 24 January 2007, Banerjee was found near death lying next to her dead boyfriend. Banerjee
was taken to the hospital. Banerjee told her relatives that some members of the CPI (M) had
forced her to ingest poison. She did not provide her attackers’ names because she was scared
of retaliation.
Banerjee died on 29 January 2007.
After her death, Banerjee’s family requested the post mortem report from the Bhadreswar PS.
T. K. Bhattacharya, Assistant Sub Inspector and Investigating Officer of the Bhadreswar PS
refused to give them the report citing political reasons. Bhattacharya also advised Banerjee’s
family to stay away from the case.

Case Details:
On 8 th November 2007, victim Ananda Ghosh’s daughter Mousami left the house but did not
return. Ananda learned that his daughter was abducted by Jahangir Seikh and Saharul Seikh
and was taken to an unknown location.
