Victim Hadibul Shaikh had complained to several authroites about the smuggling and illegal
activities of Bipad Sarkar, an agent at the Jalangi PS. Bipad Sarkar and the others wanted
revenge.
On 24 August 2006, a box of goods was stolen from Baktar Mondal’s house in Naodapara,
village. Bipad Sarkar and a few other villagers caught Tomri Molla in connection to the theft.
They beat him and forced him to admit that Hadibul Shaikh was involved in the robbery.
On 26 August 2006 at 1.00am, a team of police from the Jalangi PS led by SI Utpal Das entered
Hadibul Shaikh’s house to arrest him and to seize the stolen goods. Hadibul Shaikh was not
there at that time. The police ransacked the house and found neither Hadibul Shaikh nor the
stolen goods. They asked Hadibul Shaikh’s mother to tell Hadibul Shaikh to surrender at the
on the following day. They threatened her that if Hadibul Shaikh failed to do so, they would
destroy their house.
Hadibul Shaikh went into hiding and still feels very insecure.

On 14 August 2006 at 5.00am, victim Ichhahaque Mondal of Sahebrampur village was going to
Modhubona, Bidupur in his tractor. On the way, near Bidupur, a young boy from Bidupur, the
younger son of Rabban Mondal, rammed into the tractor while riding a bicycle. The boy was
