On 9 September 2006 at 9.30pm, Md. Akhtar told Hasmat Ali to get a wheel from the khalasi
(helper) of a truck. When Hasmat Ali was bringing the wheel, Md. Aslam and his brother-in-law
Harun Ansari – business rivals of Md. Akhtar – beat Hasmat Ali.
The next day, Md. Azad had Hasmat Ali admitted to the Surgical Ward of the B.N. Bose Hospital
for treatment.
On 11 September 2006, Md. Azad went to the Titagarh PS to lodge a complaint. The police noted
it as a General Diary, but took no action.

On 22 September 2006, Md. Azad and Md. Akhtar jointly lodged a complaint with the Additional
Superintendent of Police. No action was taken.

Samaddar, Subol Halder, Rupa Sil, and Pampa Das all reside at Srikrishnapur (East). They
bought about 7 bighas and 17 cottah of land from Ramprasad Mondal in 2006, and they have
clear land documents to prove their title. They built bamboo houses with thatched roofs on their
land.

Suddenly, on 8 April 2007 at around 3.00pm, around 100 people – including Panchayat Pradham
(village head) Joydeb Mondal – came to their lands and announced that they had an order that
the land should be handed over to an industrialist group called the “Salim Group” in order to set
up a township. Soon the group started demolishing the houses, and they looted the victims’
valuables. They victimised the women and children. They threw the children and beat them.
