A few cow traders of Surulia village bought cattle from Dhubulia and took them to Beldanga in
order to sell them. When all the traders were busy unloading the cows, the truck and the cows
were illegally seized by Sandeep Sen, O.C of Beldanga PS. Though the people attempted to
explain that the cows were not meant for transporting to Bangladesh, the officer paid no heed.
The people then picketed on NH 34. Many police, under the leadership of Sandeep Sen,
gathered and began to beat the protestors and threatened to shoot them. Victim Abdur Rahim
Seikh, a protester was brutally assaulted by the police until he was beaten to unconsciousness.
Abdur Rahim Seikh received blows on his stomach, chest and head.
Abdur Rahim Seikh was taken to the local PHC in critical condition, and later transferred to
Berhampore New General Hospital.

Case Details:
On the night of 3 October 2007, victim Alimujjaman Miya, aged 16, went to his farmland to guard
his crops. At that time, a few BSF Police of “B” Company under 190 Battalion caught Alimujjaman
and asked him for proof of his identity. Alimujjaman gave the BSF officers his name, his father’s
name, and his residential address.
