Since this episode, Dr.Ahamed’s family, including his five year old son, have suffered from
mental trauma. Dr.Ahamed has suffered professional and financial losses. Dr. Ahamed has
filed official complaints but no action has been taken.

On 19 July 2007, at 9:15am, victim Rajesh Shee, age 8, was attacked by Singur PS police
officers who used force against a protesting crowd.
The crowd was protesting the government’s forceful acquisition of their land which was to be
used to build a Tata car factory. The government had taken 4 bighas of land from Shee’s family.
The crowd was attempting to break the factory’s wall and retrieve their land.
Shee did not participate in the protest. However, his leg was badly burnt by a tear gas shell fired
by the police. The police have since treated this case very lightly.

Case Details:
Victim Ramesh Koley owns over 3 Bigha paddy fields, most of which are occupied by TATA
Motors. On 19 August 2007, the locals demonstrated outside TATA Motors. The police fired
tear gas, which exploded on the Ramesh’s forehead. Ramesh was taken to a local hospital,
but was transferred to Shramajibi Hospital at Belur, Howrah because of his critical condition.
Doctors later operated on his skull at Divine Nursing Home Pvt. Ltd, Kolkata. His treatment
continued at Shramajibi Hospital, Belur, Howrah.
