After two days, when Bikash Roy returned with a photograph, the police filed a missing diary. On
the request of Bikash, the police requested Madhusudan Mistri to be present at the Police Out
Post, but Madhusudan managed to abscond.
When Manu Roy returned home, Bikash brought her to the Police Out Post, but the police
refused to file a case.

Later, Bikash went to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (Alipore) with the help of a Law Assistant and
filled a case. The Canning PS filled an FIR on 20 th December 2006 u/s 120B/34/376G/364/366/
363/420/120B IPC. The OC of the Ghutiari Sharif Police Out Post was the investigating officer
of the case, and asked Manu to obtain a medical report; however, he later did not take the report
from Manu Roy.
A new police officer was appointed as the Investigating Officer, and he restarted the investigation
into Manu Roy’s case. The police arrested Basudeb Roy and Krittibas Biswas but did not take
any action Madhusudan Mistri, the main miscreant, who is a military officer.
Manu Roy and her family members live in fear. Manu Roy has lodged several complaints to
SP, South 24 Parganas (dated 3 rd January 2005, 4 th July 2006, 12 th July 2006, and 9 th September
2006), and lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister of West Bengal on 17 th July 2006.
Manu Roy also filed a complaint with the SHRC, which on 3 rd August 2006 directed the SP
(South 24 Parganas) to submit a status report on Manu Roy’s case. Within two weeks. No
action has been taken.
