On 14 May 2007 at around 9.30am, Archana Ganguly went to the Bally PS to lodge a complaint,
but the police refused to receive her complaint. After much argument, the police took the
complaint and lodged a General Diary entry. However, the police did not take any steps against
Godhuli, and did not provide Archana Ganguly with any assurances.
Archana Ganguly fears that Godhuli may file a false charge against under u/s 498A IPC
(torturing a wife). She also fears that her daughter may face a backlash from local members of
the CPI(M) party.

Case Detail:
On 3 June 2007 at 10.00am, victim Archana Mondal left her house to collect rations from
Dhanirampur village. She did not return.
On 4 June 2007 at around 7.00pm, Archana Mondal’s father Laxmikanta Mondal received
information from Sajera Bibi that her husband Rafikul Seikh and his brother-in-law Dilu Seikh
had kidnapped Archana Mondal for purposes of human trafficking.
Laxmikanta Mondal lodged two written complaints at the Raninagar and Jalangi PSs.
On 10 June 2007 in the night, an officer of Raninagar PS rescued Archana Mondal from Dilu
Seikh’s residence and handed her over to the Jalangi PS. SI Tuhin Biswas went to Laxmikanta
Mondal and returned Archana Mondal to him.
Archana Mondal told her parents that after being kidnapped she had been raped several times
by Rafikul Seikh at Dilu Seikh’s residence.
On 11 June 2007, Laxmikanta Mondal went to the Jalangi PS to file a complaint about the rape
of his daughter, but OC Somnath Bannerjee did not want to receive the complaint.
