On 24 March 2002, victim Taslema Khatun, age 22, and her sister went to work for Rabuil Gazi
as servants. They were only supposed to work for Gazi for a month.

When the Khatun sisters did not return home after a month, their father went to Gazi’s house.
There, he learned that Gazi had sold his daughters.
15 March 2003, Khatun’s father attempted to lodge a complaint against Gazi at Badurai PS, but
the police officers there only entered a General Diary entry. The Badurai PS police officers told
Khatun’s father to lodge a complaint with the Basirhat PS. However, at the Basirhat PS, the police
officers also only entered a General Diary entry, despite Khatun’s father attempts to lodge a
complaint. Khatun then complained to the Basirhat Sub Divisional police officer to no avail.
Khatun’s father later learned that Gazi had sold his daughters through to individuals living in the
Banglani Village. When he attempted to lodge a complaint against those individuals with the
Badurai PS, he was instead referred to the Swarupnagar PS.
On 27 August 2005, the Swarupnagar PS issued a notice to the two individuals, who denied all
allegations against them. The Swarupnagar PS police officers took no further action and refused
to investigate.
To date, Khatun’s father is constantly denied help from any police stations regarding his daughters.
