On 22 February 2007, Shahanara Bibi went to lodge a written complaint with the Government
Railway Police, Ultadanga. However, the Duty Officer treated her as the SI had done at the
Ultadanga PS.
The SI has stated that Fatema Khatun’s case is not a missing persons case. She has refused
to visit Jasimuddin’s house in Basanti Colony to conduct an enquiry.
On 27 February 2007, after much persuasion by the human rights organisation MASUM, the
OC of Ultadanga PS recorded a missing diary under pressure from the Deputy Commissioner,
Partha Ghosh.
It has since been learned that Jasimuddin informed police that he was present at the time of
Fatema Khatun’s departure from Ultadanga Station, and that he stated that she left with Rs. 300
and some goods made of brass. He has also threatened Shahanara Bibi with deep trouble if
she pursues the matter further.
Fatema Khatun is still missing.
Victim(s) : Gopal Barui
Perpetrator(s) : 1) Bhola Babu, PO; 2) Bonghi Babu, PO
Location : Haripal PS
Date of incident : 26/06/2007
Case Details:
Victim Gopal Barui loaned Rs. 30,000 to his friend Asit Adak so that the latter could start a film
business. He did not obtain any written document regarding the loan.
One year later, Asit Adak refused to return the money.
On 26 June 2007 at around 10.00am, Gopal Barui went to the Haripal PS. Officer Bhola Babu
collected Rs. 50 from Gopal Barui as a fee for bringing Asit Adak to the station.
At 11.30am, since Asit and Bhola Babu had not returned, Gopal Barui left the station.
Later, officer Bongshi Babu informed Gopal Barui that Asit Adak had been to the police station and
had agreed to pay back the amount in instalments of Rs. 2,000. He told Gopal Barui that he had
made Asit Adak write and sign this agreement, and that this agreement could serve as evidence
that Asit Adak had borrowed money from Gopal Barui. However, Bongshi Babu did not show the
agreement to Gopal Barui.
