Poor and marginalized people of Nonapukur lived on the street. Due to the Durga Pooja, some<br />
of them moved to temporary tents on the sidewalk. On 4 October 2007, Park Town POs and<br />
Municipal Corporation personnel attacked these people. The POs ransacked the inhabitants’<br />
tents, took their belongings, verbally abused the woman and beat the inhabitants, including one<br />
woman who received a severe head injury.<br />

Case Details:<br />
On 20 th August 2007, a computer and cash were stolen from a shop. In response, Salar POs<br />
began harassing innocent villagers. Without an arrest warrant, the POs arrested a minor boy<br />
named Roje Seikh. He was taken to the PS, beaten, and kept in detention for four days. He was<br />
released, and was admitted for treatment at S.D Hospital.<br />
The Salar police also arrested rickshaw pullers and tortured them while they were under<br />
detention.<br />
The Salar police barged into Sana Seikh’s house and beat him. When his wife Yasmin<br />
protested, they verbally abused her. Sana was taken to the PS, and later released.<br />
