2007
On 17 July 2007, the Detective Department, Lalbazar, Kolkata, arrested Shiu Kumar Rajak in
connection with a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotheratic Substantial Act. His bail
petition was granted by the Metropolitan Court of Bankshall for an amount of Rs. 55,000 after one
year. Due to his poverty, some advocates of Alipore Court appealed for modification of the bail
amount; the modification petition was granted and bail was reduced to Rs. 3,000.
When Shiu Kumar Rajak left the jail by taxi, a battalion of police officers surrounded the taxi,
dragged Shiu Kumar Rajak out, and pushed him into a prison van.
