Course structure<br />

The program is a one year full-time course, or a four<br />

semester part-time course, plus a minor thesis.<br />

The masters degree consists <strong>of</strong> four subjects, including two<br />

compulsory core subjects, plus a minor thesis. Each subject<br />

involves three hours <strong>of</strong> course work per semester. A minor<br />

thesis, <strong>of</strong> 20,000 words or equivalent, is to be undertaken<br />

concurrently. It is possible to select electives from N089, the<br />

Graduate Diploma in Writing.<br />

~002 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Doctorate in<br />

Psychology<br />

This is a three year full-time program which prepares<br />

graduates to a high level <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in the practice <strong>of</strong><br />

counselling psychology. Graduates from the course complete<br />

all the course work subjects and practicum experience<br />

placements which make up the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in<br />

Counselling Psychology program. In addition, they complete<br />

a substantial research study and submit this in the form <strong>of</strong> a<br />

major thesis. Students are also required to attend and<br />

participate in the Department's regular program <strong>of</strong> colloquia.<br />

There will normally be an intake <strong>of</strong> up to fik new entrants<br />

each year. The Department may vary the frequency <strong>of</strong> intake<br />

and the number <strong>of</strong> new entrants depending on the<br />

availability <strong>of</strong> staff to provide suitable research supervision. In<br />

order to be admitted to the course, an applicant must hold<br />

a first or upper second class honours degree in psychology<br />

from a recognised Australian university (or hold qualifications<br />

deemed by the <strong>University</strong>'s Higher Degree Committee to be<br />

equivalent) and be eligible for Associate Membership <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Australian Psychological Society. Intending applicants should<br />

consult with the Coordinator <strong>of</strong> the program prior to<br />

lodging an application.<br />

The degree <strong>of</strong> Doctor <strong>of</strong> Philosophy may be undertaken by<br />

suitably qualified individuals in areas <strong>of</strong> study compatible<br />

with the interests and expertise <strong>of</strong> staff.
