At both campuses, when circumstances allow, English as a<br />

second language (ESL) trained teachers and extra tuition<br />

time are provided for ESL students enrolled in VCE, advanced<br />

certificate and associate diploma courses.<br />

Independent learning<br />

At both campuses students have access to materials for<br />

independent study (self-access for language development<br />

purposes; audio, computer-based and text-based materials<br />

are provided).<br />

Non-permanent residents<br />

Courses are run by the English Language Centre for<br />

international students and others who are in Australia on a<br />

Outside groups wishing to use <strong>Swinburne</strong> facilities should<br />

contact Planning and Information on 819 8686 to discuss<br />

their requirements. <strong>Swinburne</strong> lecture theatres and<br />

classrooms may be booked for use by outside organisations.<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> Conference Centre<br />

The <strong>Swinburne</strong> Conference Centre is located at the north-<br />

west end <strong>of</strong> the campus. It is a pleasantly situated centre,<br />

ideal for small conferences, seminars and training courses. It<br />

comprises a large seminar room, one smaller discussion<br />

room and a dining room, all available for outside hire.<br />

Enquiries about the facilities available or booking <strong>of</strong> the<br />

The lnternational Student Unit was established to provide a<br />

focal point for <strong>Swinburne</strong>'s international activities.<br />

This includes being responsible for all matters relating to the<br />

implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Swinburne</strong>'s international program and<br />

coordinating academic links with overseas tertiary<br />

institutions.<br />

All enquiries for study at <strong>Swinburne</strong> by non residents <strong>of</strong><br />

Australia should be directed to the unit to ensure that<br />

Australian government admission policies are followed.<br />

The coordination <strong>of</strong> on-going welfare <strong>of</strong> overjeas students is<br />

also a responsibility <strong>of</strong> the unit.<br />

The unit also operates a student hostel for international and<br />

Australian students.<br />
