4.6.7 Be present, or a nominee shall be present,<br />
in each examination room at the beginning<br />
<strong>of</strong> each examination in the subject to:<br />
4.6.7.1 answer any questions which may<br />
arise regarding the subject matter <strong>of</strong><br />
the examination;<br />
4.6.7.2 check each electronic calculator in<br />
the possession <strong>of</strong> a candidate to<br />
ensure that such instrument does<br />
not exceed the level <strong>of</strong> sophistication<br />
approved by the subject panel.<br />
4.6.8 Ensure that examination scripts and assignments<br />
are promptly marked and the results<br />
are accurately recorded.<br />
4.6.9 Ensure that a rwiew <strong>of</strong> the examination<br />
script is conducted for any candidate for<br />
whom an application for special<br />
consideration has been lodged.<br />
4.6.10 Ensure that a rwiew <strong>of</strong> the examination<br />
script is conducted for any candidate whose<br />
initial result is a fail or on the borderline<br />
between assessment categories.<br />
4.6.1 1 In the event <strong>of</strong> the subject panel being<br />
unable to reach agreement in respect <strong>of</strong> any<br />
<strong>of</strong> the matters listed under section 4.5, in<br />
consultation with the head <strong>of</strong> department,<br />
resolve the issue in question.<br />
5. Candidature<br />
5.1 Candidature for assessment is established by the recording<br />
<strong>of</strong> an approved enrolment in the appropriate<br />
subject(s) (i.e., no separate application is<br />
required to sit for an examination). No result can<br />
be given in a subject for which the student is not<br />
formally enrolled.<br />
5.2 A student who withdraws from a subject within<br />
nine weeks <strong>of</strong> the commencement <strong>of</strong> the<br />
examination period <strong>of</strong> the semester in which the<br />
final assessment takes place shall be deemed to<br />
have failed that subject unless special permission<br />
has been given by the dean <strong>of</strong> the awarding<br />
, faculty and the result shall be recorded as "Not<br />
Pass because <strong>of</strong> late withdrawal" (NWD).<br />
No student may withdraw from a subject after the<br />
commencement <strong>of</strong> the examination period in<br />
which final assessment takes place.<br />
5.3 The teaching faculty board may specify minimum<br />
requirements for attendance at classes, lectures,<br />
tutorials, and practical sessions in order for a<br />
student to be eligible for a passing grade in a<br />
su bled.<br />
5.4 It is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> a student to become<br />
familiar with the subject attendance requirements<br />
and methods <strong>of</strong> assessment adopted for each<br />
subject undertaken; enquiries should be directed to<br />
the convener <strong>of</strong> the appropriate subject panel.<br />
5.5 Students requiring extra time<br />
Subject conveners may make special arrangements<br />
for students with temporary or permanent disabilities.<br />
Applications for such arrangement (including<br />
extra writing time) should be made to the<br />
Examinations Officer. If possible, such applications<br />
should be made before the date set down for the<br />
notification <strong>of</strong> timetable changes.<br />
6. Examination<br />
6.1 Examination period<br />
The Academic Board shall, on the advice <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Registrar, designate a period <strong>of</strong> time in each<br />
semester during which period any and all examinations<br />
shall be held.<br />
6.2 Timetables<br />
6.2.1 Approximately half-way through each semester<br />
a provisional timetable for examinations<br />
to be held during the semester's examination<br />
period will be posted on the<br />
examinations notice-board. It is the<br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> students to <strong>note</strong> their<br />
examination times and report immediately<br />
any clashes to the Examinations Officer.<br />
6.2.2 The final examination timetable will be<br />
posted on the examinations notice-board<br />
approximately two weeks prior to the<br />
beginning <strong>of</strong> the examinations. It is the<br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> students to <strong>note</strong> dates and<br />
times <strong>of</strong> examinations.<br />
6.2.3 No information on examination<br />
timetables may be given over the<br />
telephone by a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Swinburne</strong> staff.<br />
6.3 Conduct <strong>of</strong> examinations<br />
Unless otherwise stated on the examination<br />
timetable, the following arrangements will apply:<br />
(a) candidates for morning examinations will<br />
begin writing at 9.15am. A period <strong>of</strong> reading<br />
time prior to 9.15am may be allowed. The<br />
examination timetable will show the period <strong>of</strong><br />
reading time.<br />
(b) candidates for afternoon examinations will<br />
begin writing at 1.45pm. A period <strong>of</strong> reading<br />
time prior to 1.45pm may be allowed. The<br />
examination timetable will show the period <strong>of</strong><br />
reading time.<br />
In (a) and (b) above the examination will be<br />
deemed to have commenced at the time<br />
candidates began writing.<br />
Except for the completion <strong>of</strong> any identification<br />
materials as may be required by the Examination<br />
Supervisor, no writing or marking <strong>of</strong> examination<br />
material shall be permitted during a period <strong>of</strong><br />
reading time.<br />
Electronic calculators may not be used during<br />
reading time.<br />
Students will not be permitted to enter the<br />
examination room after thirty minutes have elapsed<br />
from the commencement <strong>of</strong> the examination, and<br />
will not be permitted to leave during the firjt thirty<br />
minutes nor during the last fifteen minutes <strong>of</strong> the<br />
examination.<br />
At the end <strong>of</strong> the examination students are<br />
required to remain seated until the room supervisor<br />
has collected all scripts and <strong>University</strong> material.<br />
Unless expressly prohibited by the subject panel,<br />
electronic calculators may be used. Such calculators<br />
must be battery operated.<br />
Students are required to provide their own<br />
calculators, and drawing instruments. Students will<br />
not be permitted to borrow or lend any equipment<br />
or material during an examination.
