Subject aims and description<br />
The main objectives <strong>of</strong> ltalian 3Y are to consolidate the<br />
students' language skills and to develop these further<br />
through a study <strong>of</strong> appropriate literature and allied<br />
grammar; to develop their oral skills through conversation<br />
and discussion in Italian; to develop in the student an<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> contemporary ltaly through the study <strong>of</strong><br />
ltalian history which covers the period from the rise <strong>of</strong><br />
Fascism to present day Italy, which is complemented by<br />
contemporary documents on present day ttaly and<br />
appropriate films and other media.<br />
The aim <strong>of</strong> the course is to consolidate students' advanced<br />
ltalian language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency and extend the work begun in<br />

This subject is highly recommended for students enrolled for<br />
the Double Degree BBuslBA (Italian). It will provide students<br />
with an opportunity to examine the application <strong>of</strong> EC<br />
regulation, both from an end-user perspective and from the<br />
perspective <strong>of</strong> third countries such as Australia.<br />

The subject is designed to make students aware <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong><br />
the main areas <strong>of</strong> Italy's achievements and to develop in<br />

commercial, political, social and cultural aspects <strong>of</strong> Italy's<br />

Subject aims and description<br />
Examines the ways in which government is structured in<br />
Australia and how the different levels <strong>of</strong> government<br />
function in our society. Particular reference is given to the<br />
relationship that exists between the political and the legal<br />
systems and their related functions.<br />
AD102 & Australian Society, the Economy and<br />
AD103 the Environment - 1 & 2<br />

Subject aims and description<br />
This subject runs over two semesters and highlights the<br />
development <strong>of</strong> Australian society, the economy and the<br />
effect <strong>of</strong> these developments on the natural environment.<br />
Within this framework the subject examines the role <strong>of</strong><br />
government and the means that are used to achieve its<br />
economic objectives. The conflict between objectives and the<br />
consequences for the Australian population are stressed. The<br />
focus for study is on issues derived from these elements and<br />
their importance within the context <strong>of</strong> macro economics.<br />
Unit 2 <strong>of</strong> the subject develops and applies an understanding<br />
<strong>of</strong> micro economic as well as macro economic concepts to a<br />
particular organisation or market within the economy. The<br />
case study approach will be based on an application <strong>of</strong><br />
research skills to economic and social processes.<br />

and the ways in which people can develop and apply their<br />

Subject aims and description<br />
Explores the relationships between behaviour, personal<br />
identity, social roles, interpersonal relationships and social<br />
contexts. Considers the social and psychological dimensions<br />
<strong>of</strong> organisations including employment contexts.<br />
AD106 & Using Information <strong>Technology</strong> - 1 & 2<br />

Subject aims and description<br />
Familiarises students with the broad impact <strong>of</strong> information<br />
technology in the workplace. Instructs and assists students to<br />
use personal computers and to understand the basic<br />
applicants <strong>of</strong> a range <strong>of</strong> computer s<strong>of</strong>tware. In the first<br />
semester, students will be introduced to operating systems<br />
and word processing and will develop basic competence in<br />
file management and word processing. In the second<br />
semester, word processing skills will be further developed<br />
and other kinds <strong>of</strong> applications (e.g., spreadsheets) will be<br />
introduced.
