Graduate Certificate in Business<br />

Administration<br />

This program is a two semester course intended to provide<br />

entry to management studies for managers with excellent<br />

business experience. Special provision is made for nongraduate<br />

entrants who are excluded from similar graduate<br />

diploma programs through lack <strong>of</strong> an acceptable<br />

undergraduate qualification.<br />

Course objectives<br />

At the completion <strong>of</strong> the course, it is expected that<br />

candidates:<br />

will haw completed a business coune containing a body<br />

<strong>of</strong> knowledge and technology which is relevant to<br />

immediate and potential business opportunities;<br />

will have a recognised qualification which will assist them<br />

in developing their careers in business, and;<br />

will be equipped with suitable skills necessary to<br />

continue with further postgraduate study in business<br />

administration.<br />

As candidates will already be established in business careers,<br />

it is expected that the key vocational outcomes will arise<br />

from better current job performance as well as new<br />

opportunities opening in the broader fields <strong>of</strong> management<br />

and administration within their current organisations.<br />

Entrance requirements<br />

In order to be accepted into this course, applicants must<br />

haw:<br />

a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a<br />

discipline other than business and a minimum <strong>of</strong> four<br />

years practical business experience, or;<br />

at least six years practical business experience at middle<br />

management level and a good track record as judged by<br />

the selection panel.<br />

Four sessions in Financial Modelling<br />

The coune is based on two, sixteen week semesters. Classes<br />

will be conducted either on Friday afternoons between<br />

1 p.m. to 6 p.m. or on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.<br />

The course may be run 'in-house' for organisations where a<br />

significant number <strong>of</strong> candidates are available. In such cases,<br />

organisations may choose an alternative course comprising:<br />

Progression to graduate diploma<br />

Students who perform very well in the graduate certificate<br />

may be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in<br />

Business Administration. However, success in the graduate<br />

certificate does not guarantee entry to the graduate<br />

diploma. Graduate certificate students who are accepted into<br />

the graduate diploma would normally gain exemptions in<br />

four graduate diploma units, viz BC503 Introduction to<br />

Financial Management 1, BM501 Marketing Management,<br />

BH501 Administration <strong>of</strong> Organisational Systems and BE501<br />

Economics.<br />

Fees<br />

The Graduate Certificate Business Administration is a full-fee<br />

paying course. $5,750.<br />

~072 Graduate Certificate in Business<br />

lnformation <strong>Technology</strong><br />

This course is equivalent to one semester <strong>of</strong> full-time study<br />

or two semesters part-time. There are a number <strong>of</strong> options<br />

associated with this course, which are relevant both to<br />

people without any computing and those with substantial<br />

computing experience.<br />

Course objectives<br />

to widen the opportunities for access and participation in<br />

the tertiary education system <strong>of</strong> those currently employed<br />

in the business sector;<br />

to provide a re-entry to tertiary study for graduates who,<br />

for whatever reason, would benefit from a more<br />

supportive learning environment;<br />

to provide an entry to postgraduate study for those<br />

people with excellent business experience but not formal<br />

undergraduate qualifications and who, by virtue <strong>of</strong> their<br />

age, experience, work responsibilities and other<br />

commitments, are in practical terms excluded from<br />

undergraduate and TAFE certificate courses; and<br />

to prepare candidates for further postgraduate studies in<br />

business information technology.<br />

Option 1 - no prior experience<br />

Objectives<br />

The course is designed to prwide candidates with the basic<br />

information technology skills necessary to support a<br />

successful career in business.<br />

The primary objectives <strong>of</strong> this course are:<br />

to develop within candidates the basic information<br />

technology skills necessary to support a successful career<br />

in business;<br />

to provide formal information technology education for<br />

personnel involved in information systems but who lack a<br />

broad perspective <strong>of</strong> information technology;<br />

to develop candidates' analytical and creative skills in<br />

using information technology for business planning,<br />

decision making and opportunity analysis.<br />

At the completion <strong>of</strong> the course, it is expected that<br />

candidates:<br />

will have completed a business course containing a body<br />

<strong>of</strong> knowledge which is relevant to immediate and<br />

potential opportunities;
