Subject aims and description
This course examines both the uses and limitations of
orthodox economic theory in understanding many of the
important social, economic and political issues that are
current in Australia today. In so doing the course will
improve students' understanding of the roles of both
business and government in furthering society's objectives.
Issues considered will be drawn from: the distribution of
income, wealth and pmrty, the incidence of unemployment,
and the roles of private enterprise and government in the
provision of health-care, education, transport, energy and
environmental protection.
The unit endeavours to teach students the theory and
principles needed to be able to analyse social issues from an
economic perspective.
