Finance<br />
This program is a two semester, part-time course. Offered for<br />
the first time in Australia, this unique course will open<br />
access to tertiary education to a large number <strong>of</strong> practising<br />
accountants and manage6 who, until now, haw been<br />
effectively excluded from tertiary education or have had no<br />
involvement in it for some time.<br />
Course objectives<br />
It is expected that, at the completion <strong>of</strong> the course,<br />
candidates:<br />
will be provided with an intensive practical course <strong>of</strong><br />
study in taxation and finance to better equip them to<br />
deal with taxation and finance issues in practice as<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional taxation, financial and accounting advisers;<br />
will have a recognised qualification which will assist them<br />
in developing their careers in business; and<br />
will be equipped with suitable skills necessary to<br />
continue with further postgraduate study in taxation and<br />

As candidates will already be established in business careers,<br />
it is expected that the key vocational outcomes will arise<br />

~083 Graduate Diploma in Business<br />
This program is <strong>of</strong>fered for qualified executives or potential<br />
executives, who have not undertaken significant studies in<br />
the administrationlmanagement fields, but in the course <strong>of</strong><br />
their employment, feel the need for a broader knowledge <strong>of</strong><br />
this area.<br />
The program gives candidates:<br />
(1) a working knowledge <strong>of</strong> the factors affecting the task <strong>of</strong><br />
the manager and methods <strong>of</strong> analysing these factors.<br />
Particular emphasis is on the needs <strong>of</strong> middlemanagement<br />
in both private and public enterprise, to<br />
manage in a changing environment;<br />
(2) an opportunity to examine and practise problem-solving<br />
and decision-making in management situations, which<br />
should equip students in any type <strong>of</strong> business organisation<br />
with the ability to develop logical and creative<br />
approaches to their jobs.<br />
After completion <strong>of</strong> the program, candidates will have<br />
improved their analytical skills and their effectiveness in dealing<br />
with managerial responsibilities. Moreover, participants<br />
will have a broader outlook, extending beyond their immediate<br />
specialist areas.<br />
Entrance requirements<br />
Entrance is open to graduates who hold a degree or<br />
diploma or its equivalent. The program is available also to a<br />
restricted number <strong>of</strong> candidates whose position or<br />
experience in employment is sufficient indication <strong>of</strong> their<br />
capacity to complete the course.<br />
Admission is determined by a selection committee. In<br />
addition to academic achievements selection depends upon<br />
maturity, work experience and executive potential.<br />
Accordingly, each applicant is invited to attach to the<br />
application form a detailed curriculum vitae.<br />
It is expected that most people who gain direct entry to the<br />
course should complete the qualification with two years <strong>of</strong><br />
part-time study, but, in order to continue in the course,<br />
students must maintain a satisfactory standard <strong>of</strong> progress.
