Subject aims and description<br />

The aim <strong>of</strong> the course is to explore some <strong>of</strong> those influences<br />

which haw shaped the development <strong>of</strong> ltaly into a modern<br />

industrial nation.<br />

The course is designed<br />

(a) To give students an appreciation <strong>of</strong> the ltalian way <strong>of</strong> life<br />

and understanding <strong>of</strong> the people <strong>of</strong> ltaly today.<br />

(b) To develop in the students an understanding <strong>of</strong><br />

contemporary ltaly by introducing them to recent<br />

historical, existing and changing ltalian cultural values,<br />

social, political and economic issues.<br />

2 Subject aims and description<br />

The program has been planned in order to develop students'<br />

conversation skills and pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in writing standard ltalian.<br />

literature, students will improve their competence in<br />

grammar. vocabulary and idioms.<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

The course will identify the key factors which determined<br />

European politics from 1945 and will analyse the social,<br />

political and economic changes in post-war Europe.<br />

It will discuss the significance <strong>of</strong> the completion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

European Common Market 1993 with a particular emphasis<br />

on the effects on ltaly as a Member <strong>of</strong> the European<br />

Community.<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

The course aims to consolidate students' advanced ltalian<br />

language knowledge through advanced grammatical<br />

exercises and the study <strong>of</strong> appropriate literary works. The<br />

subject will also dwelop in students an understanding <strong>of</strong><br />

contemporary ltaly through the study <strong>of</strong> ltalian history which<br />

covers the period from the rise <strong>of</strong> Fascism to present day<br />

Italy.<br />
