Subject aims and description
The aim of the course is to explore some of those influences
which haw shaped the development of ltaly into a modern
industrial nation.
The course is designed
(a) To give students an appreciation of the ltalian way of life
and understanding of the people of ltaly today.
(b) To develop in the students an understanding of
contemporary ltaly by introducing them to recent
historical, existing and changing ltalian cultural values,
social, political and economic issues.

2 Subject aims and description
The program has been planned in order to develop students'
conversation skills and proficiency in writing standard ltalian.
9 Through a detailed critical analysis of contemporary
literature, students will improve their competence in
grammar. vocabulary and idioms.

This is a practical introduction to the language; a basic

AA205 The European Community

Prerequisite: any stage one BA subject
Assessment: continuous
Subject aims and description
The course will identify the key factors which determined
European politics from 1945 and will analyse the social,
political and economic changes in post-war Europe.
It will discuss the significance of the completion of the
European Common Market 1993 with a particular emphasis
on the effects on ltaly as a Member of the European
Community.

Subject aims and description
The course aims to consolidate students' advanced ltalian
language knowledge through advanced grammatical
exercises and the study of appropriate literary works. The
subject will also dwelop in students an understanding of
contemporary ltaly through the study of ltalian history which
covers the period from the rise of Fascism to present day
Italy.
