Student Progress Review Committee<br />

6.1 Composition<br />

(a) Chair, appointed by Faculty Board.<br />

(b) Two members <strong>of</strong> the academic staff<br />

selected from a panel <strong>of</strong> academic staff<br />

nominated by heads <strong>of</strong> departments.<br />

(c) Faculty Administrative Officer.<br />

(d) Where requested by the student, the<br />

President or the Student Union or nominee<br />

may be present at the Committee for<br />

consideration <strong>of</strong> that case only.<br />

6.2 Procedure<br />

6.2.1 Upon receipt <strong>of</strong> a show cause application<br />

from a student, the Chair and Secretary <strong>of</strong><br />

the Student Progress Rwiew Committee, on<br />

behalf <strong>of</strong> the Committee, will rwiew the<br />

case and decide whether it will be<br />

necessary to interview the student.<br />

6.2.2 Additional information from appropriate<br />

academic staff about the student's<br />

academic work may be sought by the<br />

Student Progress Rwiew Committee before<br />

a decision is made.<br />

6.2.3 Students will be advised in writing whether<br />

their show cause application has been<br />

accepted without interview, or whether an<br />

interview with the Student Progress Review<br />

Committee is required.<br />

6.3 Powers<br />

The Student Progress Rwiew Committee may,<br />

when considering a show cause application:<br />

6.3.1 accept the student's show cause application<br />

and allow the student to re-enrol without<br />

condition;<br />

6.3.2 accept the student's show cause application<br />

but place conditions upon the student's<br />

enrolment in the following semester;<br />

6.3.3 require the student to take a leave <strong>of</strong><br />

absence for a specified period; or<br />

6.3.4 exclude the student from the Faculty for a<br />

period <strong>of</strong> two academic years..<br />

6.4 Enrolment conditions<br />

The academic record <strong>of</strong> students placed on<br />

conditions will be reviewed by the Student<br />

Progress Rwiew Committee at the end <strong>of</strong> the<br />

following semester and a decision made to:<br />

6.4.1 permit the student to continue studying<br />

without further condition; or<br />

6.4.2 impose a further condition on the student<br />

for an additional semester; or<br />

6.4.3 require the student to show cause why<br />

they should not be excluded from the<br />

Faculty for a period <strong>of</strong> two academic years.<br />

Appeals against decisions <strong>of</strong> the Student Pmgress<br />

Review Committee<br />

To be advised pending finalisation <strong>of</strong> new <strong>University</strong><br />

assessment regulations.<br />

Period <strong>of</strong> exclusion<br />

Students who are excluded from the Faculty will not be<br />

permitted to re-enrol for a period <strong>of</strong> two academic<br />

years (four semesters, excluding summer semesters),<br />

unless the student was excluded under Section 4.2.<br />

Students excluded under Section 4.2 will be permitted<br />

to re-enrol once a subject equivalent to the subject<br />

failed for the third time has been successfully<br />

completed at another higher education institution and<br />

the student has prwided pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> passing the<br />

equivalent subject at that institution.<br />

9. Reenrolment after a period <strong>of</strong> exclusion<br />

Students wishing to re-enrol after a period <strong>of</strong> exclusion<br />

must contact the Faculty Administrative Officer three<br />

months prior to the semester in which they wish to reenrol<br />

to receive advice about appropriate procedures.<br />

Students seeking re-enrolment after a period <strong>of</strong><br />

exclusion will normally be expected to make a written<br />

case to the Student Progress Rwiew Committee<br />

outlining their activities since they were excluded before<br />

they would be permitted to reenrol. Re-enrolment will<br />

be permitted subject to places being available.<br />

The Faculty has been fortunate in obtaining a large number<br />

<strong>of</strong> scholarships and prizes for its students, mostly provided<br />

by industry. These are to encourage and reward the<br />

academic excellence that the Faculty at all times encourages.<br />
