Subject aims and description<br />

This subject extends the range <strong>of</strong> language patterns,<br />

grammar and writing covered in stage one subjects <strong>of</strong> the<br />

advanced stream. It also provides further training in oral and<br />

Prerequisites: minimum three years <strong>of</strong> double<br />

degree BusinessIArts (Japanese) studies including<br />

satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> stage 3 subjects <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Japanese major<br />

Assessment: completion <strong>of</strong> the work-experience<br />

component; Report (2,500-3,000 words).<br />

Assessment on passlfail basis<br />

This elective subject is only available to students undertaking<br />

the double degree BusinessIArts (Japanese) course.<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

The objective <strong>of</strong> this elective subject is to provide students<br />

with a six months' experience <strong>of</strong> living in Japan and working<br />

in a Japanese company as a regular employee.<br />

Preliminary coursework: A series <strong>of</strong> preparatory lectures on<br />

Japanese company structure, employer-employee relations<br />

and similar.<br />

Students who wish to take this subject should see the<br />

subject leader.<br />

Subject aims and description<br />

This subject continues systematically to extend the students'<br />

use <strong>of</strong> spoken and written Japanese. Emphasis is placed on<br />

the correct use <strong>of</strong> an extended variety <strong>of</strong> syntactical and<br />

lexical items, colloquial and idiomatic expressions,<br />

intonations, etc., appropriate to a given situation and speech<br />

level. The aural and the reading components are integrated<br />

with each other to reinforce the students' knowledge.<br />
