Leopold Heck und die
brasilianische Lex Aurea

Resumo: Referindo-se ao prefácio do editor, Hernâni Donato “Alemães
nos 500 Anos do Brasil”, o autor iniciou pesquisa sobre
o documento de 13 de Maio de 1888, a Lei Áurea.
Elaborado artísticamente em pergaminho, o artista Leopold
Heck, alemão, brasileiro naturalizado, fez uso neste trabalho
da simbologia das cores da Heráldica Brasileira. Pintor
de cenas da corte imperial, Leopoldo Heck conseguiu, de
forma genial, reforçar o cunho de direito de estado deste
documento, exposto no Arquivo Nacional.
Abstract: Taking reference to the preface of the editor, Hernâni Donato
“Germans in the 500 years of Brazil”, the author researched
one of Brazil’s most important documents, the “Lex Aurea”
from May, 13, 1888. The paper is an artistic work on pergament
where Leopold Heck, german, later a brazilian citizen, used
the simbology of brazilian heraldic colours.
Through this really genial instrument he achieved to give
the document all the force of state law. It is to be seen in the
Arquivo Nacional.
Das Jahrbuch des Instituts Martius-Staden hat getreu seinem Auftrag, “ eine
Brücke zwischen deutscher und brasilianischer Kultur” zu sein – so zuletzt formuliert
im Vorwort des Jahrbuchs 1997/1998 –, immer wieder Leben und Werk der
Deutschen in Brasilien erforscht. Im Jahrbuch 1999/2000 schrieb Hernâni Donato
noch über “ Alemães nos Primeiros 500 Anos do Brasil”.
Zu diesen zählt auch Leopold Heck, ein wenig bekannter Künstler. Der Historiker
schenkt ihm vielleicht mehr Beachtung, denn er hat die berühmte lex aurea
geschrieben und die im Nationalarchiv verwahrte Urkunde künstlerisch gestaltet.
