d. Cast Iron Threaded Flanges: ANSI B16.1, Class 250; raised ground face, bolt spot
faced.
e. Cast Bronze Flanges: ANSI B16.24, Class 300; raised ground face, bolt holes spot
faced.
C. Grooved Mechanical Joints and Fittings. Joints and fittings shall be designed for not less than
175 psi service and shall be the product of the same manufacturer as submitted in shop
drawing equipment review; segmented welded fittings shall not be used. Fitting and
coupling houses shall be malleable iron conforming to ASTM A 47/A 47M, Grade 32510;
ductile iron conforming to ASTM A 536, Grade 65-45-12.
1. Grooved Mechanical Couplings. Couplings shall be of ductile or malleable iron housing,
a synthetic rubber gasket of a central cavity pressure-responsive design; with nuts,
bolts, locking pin, locking toggle, or lugs to secure roll-grooved pipe and fittings.
2. Gaskets. Gaskets shall be of silicon compound and approved for dry fire protection
systems. Gasket shall be the flush type that fills the entire cavity between the fitting
and the pipe. Nuts and bolts shall be heat-treated steel conforming to ASTM A 183
and shall be cadmium plated or zinc electroplated.
D. Flanges. Flanges shall conform to NFPA 13 and ASME B16.1. Gaskets shall be non-asbestos
compressed material in accordance with ASME B16.21, 1/16 inch thick, and full face or
self-centering flat ring type.
1. Bolts. Bolts shall be ASTM A 449, Type 1 and shall extend no less than three full threads
beyond the nut with bolts tightened to the required torque.
2. Nuts. Nuts shall be hexagon type conforming to ASME B18.2.2.
3. Washers. Washers shall meet the requirements of ASTM F 436. Flat circular washers
shall be provided under all bolt heads and nuts.
E. Pipe Hangers. Hangers shall be listed or approved for use with a fire protection system, in
accordance with NFPA 13, and shall be of a type suitable for the application, construction,
and pipe type and size to be supported.
F. Seismic Sway Bracing. Seismic Sway Braces shall be comprised of components listed or
approved for use with a fire protection system, in accordance with NFPA 13, and shall be of
a type suitable for the application, construction, and pipe type and size to be braced.
Component selection shall be validated with seismic sway bracing calculations.
G. Valves and Strainers. Valves shall be supervised in accordance with NFPA 13 and governing
DOE and Hanford Site requirements.
1. Outside Screw and Yoke (OS&Y) Gate Valves. Manually operated gate valves shall be
OS&Y type and shall be listed or approved for use with a fire protection system.
2. Butterfly Valves. Manually operated butterfly valves shall be of indicating type and shall
be listed or approved for use with a fire protection system
