UK/GERMANY BBC World Service and Deutsche Welle have announced plans to
launch a joint radio service to Europe on DRM shortwave. The new stream,
which will be entirely in English, is expected to go live in early 2009.
It will be available from early morning till late at night targeting
Western and Central Europe and a potential audience of 170 million
listeners with global news and current affairs and a rich mix of in-depth
analysis, documentaries and cultural programs. The service will provide a
multimedia offer of audio and text, the latter coming automatically from
the BBC News website.
Erik Bettermann, Director General at Deutsche Welle, said: "It is great
that two of the world's most established broadcasters can work together on
a project of this scale. This is an exciting venture that will offer
European listeners top class content and provides the perfect opportunity
to reintroduce listeners to DRM."
USA/INDIA Meeting with Adrain M Peterson
Hi Everybody,
Last week one of my business trips took me to Indianapolis, Indiana and I
took the oppurtunity of meeting my old DXer friend Adrain M Peterson at
his home at 903, Tanninger Drive.
My first meeting with Adrian dates back to 1978 when he was in Pune. I
visited his QTH at Salisbury Park from where he used to produce the famous
DX program Radio Monitors International, then a very popular DXer program
for DXers in South Asia perhaps next to DX Juke Box of Radio Nederlands.
Getting good shortwave receivers in India was then a big problem due to
import restrictions. So when Adrian's Grundig Satellit 2000 was up for
sale I was the one to grab it. Thereafter I may have visited him three
times and everytime he used to interview me and put that interview on
Radio Monitors Intl.
Adrian had to leave India suddenly in 1985 due to India Govt. policy and
ever since he has been staying at Indianpolis, USA.
Last time when I was visiting Lafayette, Indiana in 1996, Adrian drove
about a hundred miles to meet me at my hotel room.
This time I drove to his home on 4th evening on a rainy evening (remenants
of Hurricane Gustav). I met Adrian and his wife Violet. Adrian 78 years
young is still leading a busy life.
Adrian patiently showed a glimpse of his enormous QSL collection (grown
leaps and bounds since I last saw in 1978 in Pune.)
He is a living DX ing legend and his collection of information on radio
history is perhaps one of its kind in this world under a single roof.
