the Delta Junction testing area some 130 miles southeast of Fairbanks.
If the tests show excellent results for digital broadcasts to cover the
entire state, the next step would be to obtain approval to use the DRM
system and the transmission station for a regular broadcasting service,
It will be interesting to see if this project survives since its principal
sponsor, Senator Ted Stevens, is now under federal indictment for various
corruption charges. Stevens managed to sneak funding for this project -a
process known as "earmarking" into a Department of Defense appropriation.
The people behind DART are the same people who have previously been
training "certified miners" again under a Department of Defense earmark
from Senator Stevens - and, from what I have been able to determine, have
zero background or experience in radio or wireless.
I was able to discover this with a simple Google search and examination of
non-profit federal tax returns, which are available for public inspection
on-line. The entire process took about a half-hour. It's too bad the good
folks at Radio World are too damn lazy to do a little research before
reprinting press releases verbatim.
CAMBODIA Has not been on SW for several years; anyone who can remember
at least three of the former SW frequencies without research wins a free
year's subscription to DXLD. But you can still QSL National Radio of
Cambodia by going to SE Asia, and monitoring it on 918 kHz.
A verie-letter obtained by Sergey Kolesov appears in Sept World DX Club
Contact. The letterhead and foot, and even the date(?) are all in Khmer
script, but the info says it was verified after one attempt without IRC or
$, for 25 April 2007 at 2156-2255 local time. The reply is in English.
