"This was the radio of the Danish Brigade situated in North West Germany (North Friesland). It appears that the station has also been known by the name of "FOVA". According to information from Knud Eriksen - FOVA, however, was the name of the welfare organization of the Danish soldiers. This organization was probably responsible for the programmes. The programmes mainly consisted of entertainment for the soldiers, mainly grammophone records, but you could also hear short newscasts. They even had a request programme where the soldiers came to the microphone to send greetings to their relatives in Denmark." I can add that when I entered the Royal Danish Army in 1959, we still had a similar service in Denmark called FOV - "Forsvarets Oplysnings- og Velfaerdstjeneste" which means "The Information- and Welfareservice of the Defence". But at that time there was no need for a separate radiostation any longer. I just had a look in the first WRTH's, but neither the editions Winter 1947, Summer 1948, Winter 1948-49 and Winter 1949-50 mentioned the Danish Brigade and its radiostation. (Anker Petersen-DEN, DXplorer Nov 3) I do know just a bit about the Danish Brigade, Den Danske Brigade. Post- WW2, encouraged by the British and established by negotiations between Great Britain and Denmark, a unit, not less than 3500 Danish troops, were to comprise part of the occupation forces in the British zone of Germany. It came under a sort of joint command of the Danish military and the British Army of the Rhine. It came into being in May 1947 and lasted at least two years (and I think, longer). My first thought was that the FOVA Danske Brigade Radio would have been a sort of Danish AFRTS, a morale booster fby or for Danish troops, either from Danish territory, or from the occupied area of Germany itself where the brigade was based (seemingly in the one-time Danish areas of Schleswig Holstein). Henrik's information, though, suggests a clandestine nature of the station which seemingly sought secrecy as to both frequency and location. THis would suggest operation by an element that opposed deployment of Danish troops in the occupation. It seems unlikely that that could have opperated from within occupied Germany itself, so perhaps it was run from Denmark by some group opposing the occupation role of Danish troops or from somewhere else, say, neutralist Sweden. That, is of course, mere speculation. I would be interested if perhaps some of our Danish SWCI colleagues have more and better information about this seemingly Danish clandestine station circa 1947-48. (Don Jensen-USA, DXplorer Nov 3) The March 1948 edition of Nattugglan, published by the Scandinavian DX Club in Sweden, carried a cover picture of the female announcer at "FOVA Den Danske brigad i Tyskland". The picture was submitted by Allan Skoelder, at sbro, in Sweden. In previous and subsequent issues of Nattugglan there were several references made to these transmissions and in the QSL column also mentions of QSLs received. It was said, however, that the actual address information was withheld upon request by the station. Not even the actual frequency was listed!
