first time I have heard a transmitter causing this level of interference
to other users.
I note that Saudi Arabian Radio and Television is a member of the HFCC. I
would therefore ask that you contact them about this matter and request
that these transmitters be taken off the air and repaired.
Clearly the continued operation of these transmitters is against your main
objective of efficient and economical use of the short-wave radio
spectrum, and the improvement of radio reception of short-wave broadcast
transmissions world-wide.
I received a reply to my email from Vladislav Cip, HFCC secretariat.
My email was passed on to the Riyadh shortwave technical staff and he
'forwarded their reply which said in part:
"We faced unstable electrical mains supplying our transmitters for a few
days, which might have affected our transmission. We took an action
against this problem by repairing the affected transmitter that broadcast
the two mentioned frequencies. Please advice us if the mentioned problem
was cleared and if the programs are normal."
Checking June 9 and subsequently the problem had been cleared. I also
later received an email from a member of their HFCC delegation asking me
to confirm the transmitters were now causing no interference and
requesting MP3/WAV files if the problem was still there. (Mike
SINGAPORE RSI Close down.
Listening at 1330 UT RSI is off. Forgot to see whether yesterday there was
a closedown announcement. Today, good news is that though RSI is off, all
Radio Singapore Home Service SW relays are intact Chinese 6000, 6150
English, 7235 Malay, 7275 Tamil. So it appears the announcement applied to
RSI?
That was a pretty short life as shortwave services go. When they were
young, in the mid 90's, I sent them a report from Quito. They sent me all
kinds of promotional material and were excited to have a listener in
Ecuador. Great that the regional services are still going.
I think closedown was scheduled for July 31.
