YEMEN 6005 Yemen Radio, San'a; 2153-2200* Oct 9, 2008. Tune-in to
rather hip R&B/funk vocal, possibly in Arabic, into short orchestral
anthem at 2159, off. BBCWS weak underneath (Seychelles?) in English, and
contrinued alone on the channel after 2200. Also the next day, October 10,
2150-2200* with Arabic man, into pop-ish Arabic vocal 2155, orchestral
anthem from 2159 and off. Good, but no trace of nominal 9780 either day.

Family R in Arabic at 2059.

As many of you know, about three years ago I began work on another SWBC
history book, this one picking up where my first book, On the Short Waves,
1923-1945: Broadcast Listening in the Pioneer Days of Radio, left off.
"The book" turned into two books, which have now been published by
McFarland. They are Listening on the Short Waves, 1945 to Today, and
Broadcasting on the Short Waves, 1945 to Today. Listening covers the SW
audience, clubs, SW literature, DX programs, QSLs, receivers, computers,
etc.
The heart of the Broadcasting book is a year-by-year look at the SWBCing
bands, international and tropical, from 1945 to the present. The books are
available from McFarland
and Universal Radio
as well as internet booksellers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. (I'm not
selling them.)
They are big books.
Listening is 415 pages, Broadcasting 488 with lots of memories.

TRT Foreign service and English section editor in Frankfurt/Main.
RMRC Clubabend schon am 17. Oktober um 1730 UT / 1930 CET.
Kurzfristige Einladung zu einem vorgezogenen RMRC-Clubtreffen.
Die Leiterin der Auslandsabteilung von TRT, Frau Engin Asena, teilte am
Do. mit, dass sie in der kommenden Woche anlaesslich der Buchmesse in
Frankfurt sein wird.
Der Rhein-Main-Radio-Club hat sie zu einem Clubabend eingeladen und sie
hat zugesagt, der Leiter der englischsprachigen Abteilung wird sie
begleiten.
Sie wird Bilder praesentieren und den einiges zu TRT erzaehlen.
Aus diesem Grund haben wir den Termin des RMRC-Clubabends um zwei Wochen
vorverlegt, d.h. auf den
17. Oktober 2008
