power indications there!
Some time ago there was a discussion concerning the way the Chinese
relayed their foreign service programmes from Beijing to the Cerrik site
for retransmission to Europe and the Americas until these realys ended on
July 15, 1978. I suggested that they used high power shortwave
transmitters for this purpose, others suggested that the signals went by
cable. Maybe Mr Mandija or someone he knows still remember how it was
done.
- As far as I remember from ATA colleagues, also confirmed by Mr. Mandija,
their programs were received on SW at ATA (Alb. Teleg. Agency) Receiving
Station in Kamez field, 8 km away NW of Tirana, where our Monitoring
Center was also located from 1966 until 22 Dec 1993. Then their programs
were sent via cables to Cerrik r/stat.
Thank you very much for your informative message.
It was very interesting to know that the rebuilt Cerrik site will be
inaugurated already on 28 November. In the past two weeks several strong
occasional CRI transmissions in Chinese have been heard, obviously of a
test nature, and we have been wondering if these could be from Cerrik.
Thank you also for confirming that the Shijak transmitters are using Pulse
Step Modulation. That is the latest technology. As regards the new
transmitters at Shijak and Cerrik, it would be of great interest to
technically minded DXers to know where they were actually made. The Shijak
Continentals are probably Chinese clones (exact copies) of American
originals, but it would be very useful to have that confirmed and also to
know where in China they are produced. If the transmitters have a model
designation that would also be useful information.
The Chinese are producing both 100 and 150 kW transmitters. In the past
few years they have installed a large number of transmitters in this power
range to be used for jamming various western broadcasters.
As you may know, the Chinese have also supplied Cuba with six 100 kW
transmitters. These are now on the air and are producing good signals.
Hello Everyone, And re the new Shijak senders - I like that bit about
being "designed on" US Continental type units! Yes, I bet they are too.
Some very interesting information is coming out of ALB and lets hope it
continues. I wonder if we can assume that the units at Cerrik are copies -
er, sorry - of similar design - to those at Shijak.
Very good signal at my place on both channels at 1730. The SW150A (?)
transmitters [Cerrik-ALB] seem to be working well. Contrary to the SW100F
transmitters [Shijak-ALB] delivered to Radio Tirana, these two seem to be
