USA DX w/Cumbre & WHR.
I believe that every time I've been trying to hear DXw/C and heard
nothing, it's been the evening/night transmissions such as on 7315 and
5850 in local Saturday/Sunday evenings, and some others. I have a conflict
for the Saturday-morning 1430 UT airing so seldom try that I should make
an effort to tune that one in.
[later] For what it's worth, I tried again this past weekend on the
evening transmissions on 5850 and 7315. Absolutely nothing! I just am
always running into conflicts or being out of the house for these morning
& mid-day Saturday transmissions that seem to be far more reliable.Since
DXw/C is a donated-time program, I suppose that there's no point in
complaining to WHR that their transmissions on these lower frequencies,
that DID work reliably over past years, are not getting thru, but what
about the stuff that people are PAYING them to transmit over these
frequencies at these times? Surely *they* should be complaining that they
aren't getting any service to areas that they reached before!
[later] I finally had more time over the weekend of October 3/4/5 and was
able to check out most of the DXing w/C transmissions listed in gh's DX
Programs file. The one reported below by Ron Howard was the *only* one I
could get (and it came in well)! (1430 UT Sat on 11785) ALL the others
were basically just not there, including 1830 UT Sat also on 11785, 1930
UT Sat on 9495, any of the evening or night airings on 7315 or 5850, and I
even managed to be awake near the time of the 7385 kHz one at 1000-1030 UT
(but a little late) and that frequency was vacant too.
This is pretty incredible, isn't it? I could expect getting poor reception
on some, with the program being unlistenable but still identifiable, but
not complete absence! Is WHR actually transmitting on those frequencies at
those times? Just who is receiving them, if so? And why is the *one* that
comes in here in the Central US the one that conflicts with something I
find important on local NPR?
(Will Martin-USA, dxld Oct 9)
Funny you should mention this, as I happened to catch WHRI with Marie
Lamb/DXing with Cumbre, along with Chris Lobdell's pirate report (was nice
to hear a good Bostonian accent again), plus I liked his singing "pirate"
jingle. Heard with a good signal on Sept 20 (Sat.), on 11785.0, from 1445-
1452 and completely overwhelming the Voice of Indonesia on a slightly
lower frequency.
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, dxld Oct 9)
WHRI missing from 11785 at 1326 during Sat Oct 11 broadcast of Hmong Lao
Radio, normally at 1300-1400. Just VOI 11786 producing het with Firedrake
and VOA. Recheck at 1423 found WHRI back on the air with rustic music on
Hmong World Christian Radio; 1430 DXing with Cumbre with Marie Lamb.
