and 323 deg. It is understood that only the 323 deg. pattern is in use at
present since 1548 carries the Iraq version of Radio Sawa exclusively.
1593 kHz appears to use a two mast antenna, no idea if patterns may be
switched here. It is certainly known that the transmitter is an elder
Continental (should be a 318.5A model), moved from Holzkirchen to Kuwait.
A fourth shortwave transmitter, installed in 2005 or so, is one of the
419F's from Holzkirchen as well.
Planned and perhaps already under way is the installation of the ex-Rhodos
transmitter (Harris, 600 kW) for operation on 1386 kHz.

The IBB Relay station in KWT is one of the cheapest stations to
operate...guess oil costs... so when all the other relay stations have
gone, this might still be around or the last to go. Morocco will close
after the end of the current season.
Its a half hearted effort that the IBB is putting. People who are not in
touch with the World Media situation take decisions. The good engineers
are demoralised and find work elsewhere and the journalists are abandoning
the IBB. See Al Jassira getting most of the CNN/BBC journalists. If you
heard a top Pakistani politician on CNN on Benazir Bhutto's assasination
say, that most of the country will get to know of it only tomorrow morning
some 12 hours later, as there is no electricty after 7 PM or so ... you
will realize what audiences can be reached on the Internet and Satellite
TV.
Cutting down on HF radio to channel the funds to Internet at Satellite is
only cutting down your audience. On the Internet even if you have access
we have to remember that people look for info that they want and not what
the West wants to tell them. If the West wants to reach people who get on
the street, give refuge to terrorists in the border areas or what have
you, you have to get down to their homes. IBB is losing. Take S.Asia. CRI
is transmitting on every freq that the IBB uses for English and protests
are not even being heard at HFCCs by the Chinese and Iranians..
Sadly America is out of touch with the world. The billions that go down
the drain in Iraq and AFG leave alone the lives and limbs of young
Americans would be spared and better invested if the bosses understood or
at least listened. If every soldier were sent as a Peace Co volunteer
backed with the millions, not billions what a wonderful image the US would
have and those same people who appear to support terror will stand up
against it and say This is America. Sad but true. This is my view anyway
as a friend of America.

0705 UT on Dec 30. New xmtr put in a pretty good signal for this hour, but
voice audio is still muddy. Heavy QRN and CODAR.

Year's. Normal sign off time is 2300 UT. Was also on late Christmas eve
with sign off around 2400 UT on Dec 24. Heard with English religious talk.
Contemporary religious music. Local religious music. Closing announcements
at 0002 UT. Sign off with National Anthem. Poor. Weak in noisy conditions
& CODAR QRM.
