An 11 year old AM transmitter would typically be a solid state one, when
bought new. The normal life span is 10 years, but with some proper
maintenance they can go many years on. The are just obsolete in terms of
power consumption and realibilty. If you are short of funds fixing this
rig will be a good option, and put it back on air. To cope with power
usage and reliability just power down 20% and increase mod as much as you
can. Coverage will be the same.
Solid State transmitter usually comprises of multiple final stages, you
can run them with reduced number of those stage, of course with less
power. The situation could be that to many final stages are gone, however
they are not to hard to fix. Just replace the final FET's.
This requires a good engineer, which might be the real problem on such a
remote island, with just a couple of stations and a few transmitters there
is no business for a transmitter engineer. So this just a nice project for
a technician who is used to improvise and loves a vacation on a nice
tropical island. Just a few thoughts, it is hard to judge from such a
distance.
KOREA D.P.R./UZBEKISTAN [and non] UNIDENTIFIED. 7515, Nov 20 at 1349 UT
oscillating whoop-whoop jammer covering up some music. Similar but
somewhat slower jammer at same time on 7585 kHz. It's much like the
jamming by North Korea on 6350 kHz. And sure enough, per Aoki listings, we
have two clandestines vs Korea North here:
7515 Open Radio North Korea 1300-1400 daily Korean 100kW 60deg
Tashkent UZB ORNK b08 VT
7585 Radio Free North Korea 1400-1600 daily Korean 100kW 60deg
Tashkent UZB FNK b08
Yes, both transmitted from Uzbekistan; only thing is, 7585 not scheduled
until 1400 UT, but perhaps the jammer and/or the target were getting a
head start.
BTW, these frequencies are supposedly coordinated by Christian Vision,
which also uses Tashkent for its overt broadcasts to S Asia; so CVC are
also in the North Korean clandestine business? Well, yes, also via their
own site Darwin.
KUWAIT 11675 still R Kuwait in Ar 0700-0800 UT, // 15495. Someone
checked the latest R KWT schedule recently???? Is AOKI list correct on
this matter?
(Wolfgang Bueschel-D, dxld Nov 15)
Re KWT - no, EiBi hasn't got the sched correct. 11675 as we know goes till
0900 at least. I don't hear English on 15110, and the afternoon Arabic is
intermittent. 15505 isn't heard at any time. I assume 11630 replaces it.
There is no longer any transmission on 17885 - did I read somewhere that
Pilipino is now on 11630? 15495 is heard until around 0900 but I do not
hear it at 1800. Propagation or not on?
