like Eton E1, AOR7030, and SONY ICF 2010.<br />

6100, UNID Cuban opposite station? Glenn, during a short break this night<br />

I noted an UNID Spanish language station at 0300-0330 UT slot July 7 on<br />

6100 kHz. Many Cuban items; also "Voz de Amistad" and address in Florida<br />

was given. Though not meant to my location target, the signal was strong<br />

up to S=8 at deep night propagation. Back lobe of U.K. site?<br />

Yes, that one has not changed, so far. The schedule should now be, always<br />

subject to change without notice, daily: 2200-2400 9515, 0000-0200 9640,<br />

0200-<strong>04</strong>00 6100.<br />

Woe betide any station which chooses a SW frequency which is used at any<br />

other hour by another station the DentroCuban Jamming Command doesn't<br />

like. Jammers are allowed to run far beyond the "necessary" hours, TS.<br />

U.S.A. Voice of America to Cut Language Services Voice of America to Cut<br />

Language Services.<br />

The Voice of America plans to eliminate seven radio language services this<br />

year, reflecting the Bush administration's emphasis on outreach to the<br />

Muslim world. Among the cuts are the radio and TV broadcasts of the<br />

Russian service, along with radio broadcasts in Ukrainian, Serbian, Hindi,<br />

Macedonian, Bosnian and Georgian.<br />

Critics blame the cuts on the hundreds of millions of dollars absorbed by<br />

Alhurra, the U.S. government-funded Arabic television news channel.<br />

ProPublica has published two reports on turmoil and waste at the network.<br />

VOA employees have long been unhappy with the direction of the agency,<br />

which currently broadcasts in 45 languages.<br />

More than a third of VOA employees, nearly 500, signed a petition in 20<strong>04</strong><br />

protesting the "dismantling" of the agency. The protest came after the<br />

creation of Alhurra and Radio Sawa, the Arab radio service that VOA<br />

employees say relies on popular music and entertainment at the expense of<br />

substantive news programming, VOA's hallmark. The services replaced VOA's<br />

Arabic programming, which cost no more than $7 million a year. That's far
