kleinere Radiostationen Hass-Botschaften in mehreren Sprachen gesendet.
Das ergab die Auswertung des Programms von sechs Sendern in mehreren
Landesteilen. Die Studie sieht sowohl bei der Regierungsseite wie bei der
Opposition eine Mitschuld. Sie betont aber auch, dass nicht alle
Radiostationen zum ethnischen Hass aufgewiegelt haetten.
Gerade in den letzten Wochen der Gewalt seien viele Sender auch zu Mahnern
des Friedens geworden. In Ruanda hatte 1994 der Sender "Radio Mille
Collines" eine entscheidende Rolle am Zustandekommen des Voelkermords.
Traditionell spielt das Radio in Afrika noch eine viel groessere Rolle als
in Europa. Radio Vatikan wird von vielen lokalen Sendern in Afrika,
darunter auch in Kenia, wieder ausgestrahlt.

Says that KBS announced test transmissions of a half hour via 1440 kHz, to
start in March. Must be the Marnach transmitter. Actually quite a
surprise, do they really have a budget for such expensive mediumwave
relays? And this announcement was about German only, so it's possible that
further broadcasts will be on 1440 as well.

MADAGASCAR 5010 Radio Madagasikara, 2140-0200+, Feb 16-17, variety of
Afro-pop, local pop music. Many different styles of music. Malagasy talk.
Possible religious program at 2303. Suppressed carrier USB. Weak at tune-
in but improved to a good level by 2200. On all night again.

5010 carrier+USB Radio Madagasikara; 0004-0213 19 Febr. Malagasy male and
female announcers, local and also almost South African-sounding highlife,
along with local pop vocals. Excellent. I wonder why they're running
overnight here now? Regardless, good listening and I hope it continues.

MALAYSIA 6049.64 Asyik FM via Kajang 1405-1440+ Feb 14. Presumed with
Quran to 1411, then low-key talk to 1429; two vocal selections were
followed by more low-key talk in lang. Good for a while but fading after
1430.

MAURITANIA 4845 ORTM must be back, after missing a few weeks: 4845, Feb
18 at 0633 UT, Arabic talk and characteristic string music; QRM from ute
pulsing 40 times a minute, but no CODAR on this frequency. At this hour
was somewhat stronger than Chad 4905 kHz in French. Also Feb 19 at 0719 UT
check, French talk still audible on 4845 kHz.
