PAKISTAN Radio Pakistan Dari service for Afghanistan was monitored in
Lahore today at 5050 kHz from 1430 to 1456 UT. The transmission was heard
for the first time after change in time and increase in duration w.e.f.
5.01.2008. The program content was Kor'an recitation, Dari music and Dari
news at 1445 UT. The transmitter howl was horrible. SINPO was 13121. Radio
Pakistan also broadcasts Dari Service from its Peshawar Station for
Afghanistan at 540 kHz via a 300 kW MW transmitter from 1615 to 1700 UT.
Program content of that service, titled "Nawae-Dost" (Voice of a Friend)
is better as compared to external service Dari program. But at the same
time strong signal of Iran's IRIB is also heard on the frequency 540 kHz
in Lahore. I don't know how strong could be IRIB on this frequency in
Afghanistan. In case of a strong signal of IRIB, Radio Pakistan Peshawar's
effort will be wasted. Afghanistan is one of those few countries where
Radio whether on MW or SW is still very popular owing to shortage of
electricity and limited TV network.
Just when checked 7540 Mesopotamia Kurdish service channel at 1600 UT, I
came across of an anoying distortion signal from Radio Pakistan on 7520
kHz, signal strength about S=9 +40 dB tremendously. (schedule 1330-1615
UT,) but listened 1600-1615 UT portion only. Covered about 70 kHz both
sidebands range like from 7453 to 7590 kHz space.
ROMANIA This is old news, but one continues to be amazed at how long RRI
is willing to funxion with such degraded equipment, especially as they are
supposedly about to finish upgrading to brand- new transmitters. Feb 24 at
2335, 6115 in English talking about something Romanian, continuous roar
mixing with the undermodulated audio. The roaring sound varies slightly,
rather like a howling wind, or waves crashing on a beach, but never stops.
Harmonic 18555 kHz Golos Rossii progr, from Samara-RUS in Russian (3 x
(Tim Bucknall-UK, harmonics Feb 28)
Came across the following the other day. Had never heard this here before
and can't remember ever having seen this reported either.
6195, R Rossii, 1700, Feb 24, Russian ID, news & temperatures in the clear
after co-channel BBC sign-off. This was running slightly behind // 5905
Moscow, then split up at 1710 to carry separate Russ programming which was
difficult to keep track of due to low audio. Eventually got blocked 1759
by BBC reappearing. Again noted Feb 25 1705, Russ sports news, wiped out
1712 by co-channel BVB carrier. Aoki lists Ulan Ude, HFCC says Irkutsk.
