Human <strong>Development</strong> Index (HDI): This is a brief measurement of human development, establishedby the <strong>United</strong> <strong>Nations</strong> <strong>Development</strong> Programme (UNDP). It measures the average achievement inthree basic dimensions of human development: A long and healthy life, as measured by life expectancyat birth; knowledge, as measured by a combination of adult literacy (two-thirds weight) and thecombined primary-, secondary- and tertiary- gross enrolment ratios (one-third weight) and; a decentstandard of living, as measured by GDP per capita (PPP $US).
