6.2 Card Standards and Specifications<br />

Issuers, at their option, may encode CVC 1 on track 1 and track 2 in three<br />

contiguous positions in the discretionary data field of the magnetic stripe of<br />

a Card. For additional information about CVC 1 calculation methods and<br />

encoding standards, refer to Appendix B, “Technical Specifications.”<br />

6.2.1.7 Card Application Software and Personalization of Chip Cards<br />

The card application software of Chip Cards must comply with the chip<br />

technical specifications, as published from time to time, by the Corporation.<br />

The personalization data of Chip Cards must comply with Card issuance<br />

requirements set forth in the chip technical specifications, as published from<br />

time-to-time by the Corporation.<br />

In addition, the chip application of hybrid Cards must be type-approved by<br />

the Corporation before Card issuance.<br />

6.2.1.8 Application Software and Personalization of <strong>Maestro</strong> on >><br />

Access Devices and Mobile Payment Devices<br />

The application software and personalization data for a <strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass<br />

Access Device or Mobile Payment Device must comply with the technical<br />

specifications, as published from time to time by the Corporation.<br />

6.2.1.9 Encoding of PIN Verification Value (PVV)<br />

Issuers are strongly encouraged to encode a PIN Verification Value (PVV)<br />

and to use the formula defined by the Corporation as shown in the technical<br />

specifications. If a proprietary algorithm is used for the calculation of a PVV, or<br />

the PVV is not encoded, Transactions authorized using the Stand-In Processing<br />

Service will be authorized without PIN validation.<br />

6.2.1.10 Track 3<br />

Track 3 may be encoded, but it is not used for Transaction processing.<br />
